Hello all,
It’s been awhile since the last post where I was wrapping up student teaching. During that time, I was frantically applying to jobs in the Papillion La Vista Community Schools (PLCS) district. I finished up my student teaching, still no job. (Also–I freaking miss those kids!! It’s so hard leaving a school never knowing if you’ll see the kiddos again.)
It came to graduation day and I still did not have a job.
I remember sitting right next to the gal who had gotten the position I had last interviewed for. I was bummed. I had honestly resigned to subbing for a year and making more connections during that time.
Okay, I was excited to graduate, but I was so anxious about finding a job it consumed my thoughts.
All of those awesome people in the photo below had a job before graduation, except me. This made me feel like EVERYONE had a job, but truthfully more like half of the graduates had one. Somehow this still didn’t make me feel better.
PLCS had been so good to me that I didn’t really want to be anywhere else. I did decide to apply for two other districts, but I was hoping for my current district.
Two days after graduation, I got a phone call for an interview. I scheduled it for Monday (three days after graduation) and spent the afternoon practicing interview questions. Previously this was something I didn’t want to do because I wanted my answers to sound authentic, but I think it really helped me feel comfortable during the interview. An hour afterwards, I was offered the job! 🙂 Apparently everyone liked me as much as I liked them!
I think the teaching portfolio helped, too.
So…I’m now continuing on the journey of being a teacher setting up my classroom. My first official day for new teachers is Tuesday and the students will be in the room the following week! I am so freaking grateful to be a part of the PLCS team.
PS Like my cap design? Nevertheless, she persisted. Thanks to everyone who has supported me on the way. Couldn’t have done it without you. <3 <3
